Our farming adventure began in 2017 when we found ourselves with a 2-day old baby goat that was blind in one eye, could barely stand, and would not eat. Over the next few weeks, we nursed him back to health, but since we were living in town at the time, it was not a long-term solution. With Jon growing up on farm, it was our dream to purchase a farm property anyway, so this just meant speeding the process up a little – so the farm search began!
In the winter of 2019, we finally found what we were looking for – a 23-acre property just outside Thamesford. Our goal was to be able to grow our own food by having both a large vegetable garden and the ability to grow our own meat, and if we could share our abundance with our community, that would be even better.
Much of our foundational principles and inspiration have been drawn from some famous YouTube farmers such as Justin Rhodes and Joel Salatin. An example being the Joel Salatin style chicken tractor.
As an “eco farm”, we are committed to healthy farming and healthy food. We believe in using traditional farming methods and are always interested in learning new and (hopefully) better methods to accomplish this.
All of our animals have access to pasture year-round and are raised with their natural instincts in mind. Our customers are encouraged to come out to the farm and see how things are done. We are happy to show you around and answer any questions you may have.
About The Farmers
Jon grew up on a farm in Holland and then moved to a farm in Listowel, Ontario in 1997. He has knowledge and experience of farm life and experience in stockers, beef steers, pigs, broiler chickens as well as cash cropping. Jon spends part-time on the farm and runs his own lawncare company in the summer (Good Lookin’ Lawn Care & Landscaping – www.goodlookinlawn.ca).
Vicki grew up in Aylmer, Ontario. She never saw herself living on a farm, but she has since come to appreciate the peace and quiet of country life. She works full-time off the farm but enjoys looking after the baby animals when she is home.
In November 2021 we were blessed with a beautiful little girl, Natalie. We look forward to teaching her about the land and animals and watching her discover the farm.
